Our 12" male Scragtail came to us as a rescue found sleeping curled on the seat of a bulldozer which had been working on the destruction of the rainforest (his natural habitat) in Brazil the day before. He was smuggled back to the U.S. after he was found to have tremendous ball drive retrieving mangos the workers would toss. After arriving here we immediately set up jumps with a flyball box and sent him down the lane. The only problem was getting the mango to stay in the box hole. We then switched the mango for a small green ball rolled in mashed mango and he took it. The rest is history, while not a recognized breed by the AKC we may try to show him anyway at Westminster. He is easy to work with but will bite and spin if not released immediately (we even think his bite may be venomous as so little is known). He can run with our B.C. and seems much smarter as he could even punch out the correct hole on the Florida ballot with his left dew claw. The only problem is a female has never been captured and we would rather maintain the breed in it's natural pure blood lines. |
